How to Marry a Centerfold

Today I celebrate 18 years of marriage with my handsome fella! We celebrate 18 years of Mr and Mrs that began with this picture…

This was our big debut! 🙂

But moments like that begin long before that moment. 🙂

This moment actually began as a dream when my handsome fella was in the 5th grade! I’m sure it also began with the prayers of a boy and girls parents who had no idea at the time who they were praying for. 🙂

So, where did this begin? How did this boy and girl end up meeting and falling in love? How did that 5th grader’s dream come true?

Would you believe it if I told you we met in a book? Um, yes, I was trolling a book for my handsome fella! Oh yes! He was the most handsome fella in the book! He was the centerfold! I really don’t know for sure, but don’t they make the most handsome fella the centerfold? Yeah, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

About this book…

We are the happy ending to a dating service story before you hopped online to find Mr Right. We are the happy ending to the kind of dating service where you had to go in to the “store” and flip thru a book of questionnaires with photo attached to find your perfect match. No fast food dating for us, you had to actually drive to a location, park the car, walk into the building and sit and read about your potential date. 🙂

So that is what I did. I was actually there that day to help a friend pick someone out of the book for her, but I thought I might as well see if anyone new had joined the service since I’d looked the last time. And there he was!!! A very handsome fella in a starched green shirt! If you have read any of my other posts you will know I was fond of his starched shirts! 😉 I began reading his questionnaire. Hmmm, same religious background, social drinker, likes to dance…AND handsome! Yes, those were the things that attracted me to this fella. This was a Christian dating service and I wanted a fella who had similar beliefs to mine that also knew how to let his hair down and have a good time. Little did I know at the time he would actually let his hair loose! 🙂

So, I told the service I wanted to meet this fella. They called him. He reluctantly agreed because of some previous dates he had agreed to. He was in the process of trying to get a partial refund but they asked him to just go on one more date. 🙂 Lucky for me he never got that refund! 😉

So what does that have to do with his dream? Hang on! I’m getting there.

When the handsome fella was in the 5th grade he dreamed he was on a dirt road that turned right onto a paved road with a Chinese looking building on the left. As he drove down this road just past the building was a small bridge over a creek then as he continued on he came to a large clearing with a large building with a bunch of people standing in front of it on the other side of the clearing.

Why does that have anything to do with us? Well, it has everything to do with us and when he saw the scene unfold on our first date he knew it was destiny. He knew this was no ordinary first date. He didn’t share this information with me at the time but the dream flooded back to him.

He picked me up at my apartment in his starched jeans and his white starched shirt and we headed to the Red Lobster at the corner of Northwest Highway and Technology Blvd. Red Lobster had taken over a Chinese Restaurant. We had dinner and then headed to the AMC Grand theatre which was down a winding road over a bridge that was built over a creek. The parking lot was very large and the theatre was one of the largest theaters at the time and was bursting with people waiting in lines to buy there tickets. He knew he had been to all of these places in his dream close to 15 years earlier. 🙂

And that is how I met and began to date my centerfold.
