Did you know He made you new for a reason? Did you know when He made you new He didn’t have a choice but to take away the old? If He is a good God, and I believe He is, then He couldn’t give you something new without giving you something new to put it in. Why would He? Why would He want to waste a precious gift by pouring it into something that He knew wouldn’t be able to handle it?
Maybe that thing you are holding onto and trying to patch up and make look new and shiny just needs to go. Maybe He has something new to give you that is going to hold something more precious than you have ever known. Maybe He is trying to replace your old containers with new ones so He can pour more of Himself into you than you have ever enjoyed before.
You know that heart that you keep trying to fix up? You know those cracks you keep trying to patch? You know those leaks you keep trying to fill with putty? It can’t hold what He wants to give you unless you let Him replace it and He WANTS to!
36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. – Luke 5:36-38
