What about Good?

“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.” (Genesis 6:5)

How did this happen? They ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, not JUST evil. How did they fall so fast from a life of complete perfection and dependence on God to the total other extreme? How did they not have part of the good that was in that tree in them? Not even a smidgen?

How do we read and study and go to church and bible classes year after year and not look more like Him than we did before we started? How do men and women who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior not look more like him? Why don’t we act more like him? Why don’t our lives mirror more of him? Most have us have access to a bible, the internet, podcasts, cds, books, sermons and the list could go on, but we seem to stay the same year after year. Where is glory to glory in a time when knowledge of good is so easily accessible?

What is missing? What was missing in Genesis? Why wasn’t the knowledge of good enough to overpower the knowledge of evil?

Relationship…plain and simple.

I’ve never heard a better teaching on exactly what was lost in the Garden and what Jesus came to restore than the class, The Problem Jesus Came to Solve taught by Bob Hamp at Gateway Church. If you’d like to hear it for yourself you can find it here at the bottom of the Topical Class listing. Bob has also begun a blog series on this topic that I am looking forward to following.  You can find that here. I hope you will check one of these sources out. You will be blessed.
