14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes. – Psalm 37:7
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. – Mark 4:39
I read somewhere recently that “be still” could also be translated “let go”. I don’t know about you, but that changes a few things for me. It gives me something to do while I’m being still. It turns being still into something active vs. something passive for me. It gives me a mental picture of what “being still” before Him looks like. I’ve never understood how visual I am until recently. I never thought I had much of an imagination. I still don’t see myself that way, but I do know how God speaks to me. I know what I need in order to understand Him and His ways most effectively. I know when I am given a picture of one of His truths it sinks in much deeper.
So tonight as I still my heart to hear from Him, I will open my hands and let go of all those cares that I am longing to hear about from Him.
