Have you ever given up something for a dream? Have you ever had your eyes on the horizon and you knew the only way to get there was a sacrifice? When you gave Jesus your life, did you really give him the whole thing? What would that look like if we really did that? I’ve made sacrifices for Him, but I’m not sure I’ve made anything near what many have given, I know I haven’t. I know a lady who gave up family and her homeland in order to follow Jesus. Her decision to follow him cost her everything she knew. To turn back could even cost her life and/or the lives of those she knows and loves. THAT is a sacrifice.
Think about the sacrifices made by men and women of faith in the bible. Some of them made huge sacrifices. Many of them gave up homes and family and were rewarded…but it was still a sacrifice.
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother [a]or children or farms for My name’s sake, will receive [b]many times as much, and will inherit eternal life. – Matthew 19:29
Job lost everything he had but then God restored it to him…and more.
12 The Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning;.. – Job 42:12
Today I was thinking back over my life and some of the sacrifices I’ve made for Him. I was lamenting some recent losses of both the financial and relationship varieties. Today I learned of another loss due to a recent decision. It wasn’t a huge one in the grand scheme of things, but it was just another little dig by the enemy. But, what the enemy intends for evil…
20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about [a]this present result, to preserve many people alive. – Genesis 50:20
I meant it when I gave my life to Jesus. I don’t know what giving my life to Jesus is going to ultimately mean. I don’t think any of us will fully know the extent of that until we reach the end. It seems as though different seasons require different sacrifices. But! I do know that the rewards are going to far exceed anything I am asked to give Him!
